A Tribe for Jazz Joins Forces with Ohio Health and Columbus State Community College for Healthcare Career Conversations
A Tribe for Jazz, in collaboration with Ohio Health and Columbus State Community College, proudly announces Healthcare Career Conversations, an exclusive networking event designed to connect industry professionals from Ohio Health, OSU Wexner Medical Center, and Nationwide Children's Hospital with Health Sciences students through meaningful, curated conversations. This groundbreaking event takes place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Columbus State Community College’s Nestor Hall Lounge.
Recognizing the universal power of music, A Tribe for Jazz is integrating Jazz as a catalyst for fostering deep and impactful conversations between healthcare professionals and students. Research has shown that Jazz music offers physiological, neurological, and emotional benefits, making it an ideal tool for shaping and enhancing discussions. By leveraging this art form, A Tribe for Jazz aims to create an atmosphere that supports open, insightful, and inspiring dialogue between aspiring healthcare leaders and seasoned professionals.
“Jazz teaches us to listen, respond, and collaborate in real-time—skills that are just as essential in healthcare as they are in music,” said Stephanie Matthews, Executive Director of A Tribe for Jazz. “By bringing music into these conversations, we’re not just creating ambiance—we’re modeling a way of thinking that values empathy, improvisation, and connection.”
The event will feature a curated soundscape from an A Tribe for Jazz production, highlighting acclaimed Cuban pianist Fabian Almazan and renowned bassist Linda May Han Oh. Their music will create an immersive atmosphere, setting the stage for intimate discussions that transcend traditional networking events.
Program partners will facilitate these conversations, creating a thoughtful and engaging experience where participants take turns as sharers, listeners, and storytellers. Medical professionals will offer firsthand insights into the realities of their field, helping students explore career pathways, challenges, and opportunities within the healthcare industry.
This invitation-only pilot event will serve as a model for future interdisciplinary collaborations that blend arts, education, and professional development.
By the close of registration, more than a dozen healthcare professionals and over 50 students had RSVP’d—an enthusiastic response that reflects a growing interest in innovative, arts-integrated approaches to learning and mentorship. A Tribe for Jazz hopes this pilot will inspire similar programs across sectors, using the power of music to bridge generations, disciplines, and lived experiences.
